Imam Abu Hanifah رحمة الله عليه

Imam Abu Hanifah رحمة الله عليه’s name was Nu’maan At-Teemi Al Kufi. His lineage is as follows:

Nu’maan , who was the son of Thaabit, who was the son of Nu’maan who was the som of Mirzabaan.

His father and grandfather, Nu’maan bin Mirzabaan were amongst the noblemen of Kabul and possessed deep insight and intellect. They embraced Islam during the Khilafat of Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه and migrated to Kufa. They had a very close relationship with Hadhrat Ali رضي الله عنه.

Imam Abu Hanifah رحمة الله عليه was born in the 80th year after Hijirah, during the Khilafat of Abdul Malik bin Marwaan in eastern Kufa.

He was a cloth merchant by profession and his store was situated close to the Jami’ Masjid in Kufa, in the blessed home of Hadhrat Amr bin Huraith رضي الله عنه.
Imam Abu Hanifah رحمة الله عليه was a person with a commanding personality and a handsome appearance. He was of average height and brownish complexion. He would wear clothes of a high quality and use the most fragrant perfume. He had a sweet voice and would speak with calm tenor.
One one occasion, Ma’aafi Mousuli was conducting his lesson when he said, “Imam Abu Hanifah رحمة الله عليه possessed ten such qualities that if any other person were to possess them then he would be declared the leader of his time and chief of his tribe. These ten qualities were;

1) Piety

2) Truthfulness

3) Chastity

4) Compassion

5) Love

6) Indifference to that which benefits himself

7) Remaining silent most of the time

8) Frankness

9) Assisting the weak

10) Assisting his enemies (if they be in need).

When studying Fiqh, one realises how much effort the 4 A’imah (Imam Abu Hanifah, Imam Shafi’ee, Imam Ahmed and Imam Malik رحمهم الله) made. They were blessed with fountains of knowledge SubhanAllah. Allah has preserved His Deen and will continue to preserve it until the day of Qiyaamah. A Hadith beautifuly states that whenever Allah intends good for a person, he bestows him with the understanding of deen.

A normal person would not be able to grasp the idea of Usool – e – Fiqh. The roots of Fiqh, how Masa’il were deduced, how the Fuqaha had to make ijtihaad (sit down and look deeply to find answers) as well as qiyaas (analogical deduction)… SubhanAllah these Fuqaha possessed oceans of knowledge.

It is said that where our knowledge ends, that is where Nabi صلي الله عليه و سلم ‘s knowledge begins. And where Nabi صلي الله عليه و سلم’ s ends, that is where Allah’s knowledge begins. Allah is the Knower of the Unseen.. imagine how great Allah is!

Let us recite Surah Ikhlaas 3x for the Isaale Thawab of all the Marhumeen, especially the great  Fuqaha of Islam ..
May Allah grant us the understanding of deen, aafiyat, taqwa and all good.
Request for du’aas.
